how can i tell if my elevator inspection certificate has expired?
This will depend upon the state or governing authority for the building. ABI is licensed in Texas and Oklahoma and can also perform inspections for federal buildings. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) requires a certificate of compliance to be posting near the equipment or in the main lobby of the building. The Oklahoma Department of Labor (ODoL) requires the inspection certificate posted in or near the equipment. Federal buildings/ federal properties usually do not have certificates posted.

what is a qei?
A Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) is a certified professional trained to inspect elevator and conveyance systems for safety, performance, and code compliance. QEI certification demonstrates advanced technical knowledge, rigorous testing, and ongoing education to stay current with evolving codes and standards. Inspections performed by a QEI provide building owners and authorities with confidence that systems are evaluated accurately, independently, and in the best interest of public safety.
what do we do if we have a violation on our inspection report?
As with certificates, this will depend upon the location of the equipment. Also, the severity of the violation can impact what a property manager/ owner will need to do. In Texas, most violations will need to be repaired within 30 days and a follow up inspection may be required. For certain issues, the equipment may need to be placed out of service for passengers safety. In Oklahoma, the inspection report has Recommendations and Violations. Any recommendation should be corrected within 30 days with no follow up inspection, any Violation must be fixed in 30 days with a follow up inspection. Our expert inspectors will notify the building contact of all discrepancies before leaving the property.
